In 2020, one of the first smartphones to attract everyone’s attention will most certainly be the Samsung Galaxy S20, or Samsung Galaxy S11, the other name given to the next Korean flagship.
Anyway, this smartphone should once again be available in several models (Galaxy S20 Plus, Galaxy S20 Ultra, etc.). Little by little, we are seeing various information about the emerging and here we suggest you taking stock of everything we know in order to have a good overview.
WILL THE GALAXY S11 BE THE GALAXY S20?
Several tracks evoke the possibility that Samsung changes the number for its future smartphone. We would not have a Samsung Galaxy S11, but rather a Samsung Galaxy S20. Information that comes straight from the Ice Universe leaker . A change that would also serve to mark the change of decade and the year 2020.
This approach would not be completely new in the world of smartphones, however. For its high-end models, Huawei has already gone directly from the Huawei P8 , P9 and P10 to the P20 . And the Chinese manufacturer did the same for its Mate and its Honor brand.
This name change is all the more likely since the leak of a prototype clearly displays “Samsung Galaxy S20 + 5G” at startup.
HOW MANY GALAXY S20S WILL THERE BE?
A priori, Samsung should repeat the same pattern as in 2019 by declining its high-end in several versions: the Galaxy S20 , the Galaxy S20 + and the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Apart from the screen and battery sizes, the three models should generally share the same characteristics, but it is also possible that the last city, smaller, does not benefit from the same photo configuration.
In addition, according to certain information, Samsung would also have decided to review its nomenclature there. The Korean manufacturer could adopt a strategy similar to that of Apple for its iPhone 11 with a highlight of the most accessible model. The idea would be to launch a Samsung Galaxy S20 – the successor to the Galaxy S10e -, a Galaxy S20 Plus – the successor to the S10 – and a Galaxy S20 Ultra – the successor to the Galaxy S10 +. Enough to make consumers understand that the cheapest model will not be a Galaxy S20 at a discount since it will be the Galaxy S20.
DESIGN AND GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
According to the latest rumors, the three Galaxy S20s should benefit from a curved screen, while the Galaxy S10e was not eligible for the previous generation. Although we do not yet know their dimensions, we expect smartphones larger than their predecessors with diagonals of 6.7 inches for the Galaxy S20 +, 6.9 inches for the Galaxy S20 Ultra and 6.4 inches for the Galaxy S20. Their format would also change to a more stretched 20: 9 ratio .
OnLeaks has released its usual renderings based on CAD plans from assembly plants. We discover the Galaxy S20 with a design close to the Galaxy Note 10 with a unique punch centered on the front and an impressive photo module composed of many sensors.
He also published images of the Galaxy S20 Plus, which takes the same design, but with an even larger photo module comprising at least 5 photo sensors and a 5000 mAh battery .
We also have the right to images of the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which completes the range of 3 models expected for this Galaxy S20 family.
Under the screen, the fingerprint reader of the Galaxy S20 + and S20 Ultra could occupy a space twice as large compared to the Galaxy S10 . The ultrasonic type reader has been confirmed on the S20 + prototype . It remains to be seen whether the entry-level model will benefit from this new sensor, or whether it will rather use a sensor hidden under the screen of the old generation.
And while we are talking about the entry-level model, led to succeed the S10e, it should be particularly attractive, because it would erase the biggest flaw of its alter ego of 2019, namely: the battery. With a typical capacity predicted at 4000 mAh , we would finally be entitled to a relatively compact high-end smartphone enjoying good endurance.
In addition, Samsung seems to be preparing an even more efficient quick charge. The company has already unveiled USB-C controllers supporting a load of 100W , but its next smartphones will probably not reach this threshold.
PERFORMANCE AND 120 HZ SCREEN
Regarding performance, the information is more concrete. Indeed, Samsung has already formalized the Exynos 990 , the SoC that should be found inside the brand’s next flagships, at least in Europe. In other markets, such as the United States, Samsung will opt for the Snapdragon 865 as usual . This one being significantly more powerful this year, it should also equip the Korean Galaxy S20 , while the country of origin of the brand is usually entitled to the Exynos variants.
The chip in question is engraved in 7 nm EUV which promises, among other things, a 20% gain in performance compared to the previous generation and advanced artificial intelligence thanks to an integrated NPU (Neural Processing Unit). But it is not the most interesting thing that this component has in store for us.
ndeed, we must consider the fact that the SoC also supports screens with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The Samsung Galaxy S20s are therefore likely to join the relatively small circle of smartphones that go beyond the 60 Hz classic .
The prototype of the Samsung Galaxy S20 + precisely integrates a screen capable of going up to 120 Hz, with a definition of 3200 x 1440 pixels.
Additional hint in this direction: One UI 2.0, the latest interface from Samsung, mentions a refresh rate of 120 Hz . Suffice to say that it is certain that a smartphone with such a rapid display will be released in the manufacturer’s catalog soon and that the Galaxy S20 is an excellent candidate for that.
Finally, the Ice Universe leaker is even more assertive and indicates that the entire Galaxy S20 range will indeed benefit from a screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, including the successor to the Galaxy S10e.
WILL THE GALAXY S20 BE GOOD AT PHOTOS?
When we look at the characteristics of the Exynos 990, we see that it is capable of handling a 108 megapixel camera. However, precisely, Samsung has already formalized a sensor with this definition and the evidence suggesting that the Galaxy S20 Ultra would benefit from it has continued to intensify.
The Samsung Camera app also mentions video quality of up to 8K , as well as new capture modes: Director’s View (capable of filming with all the sensors at the same time), Night Hyperlapse (hyperlapse in mode night), Single Take Photo (to take several photos in one take) and Vertical Panorama (to tilt your smartphone vertically during a panorama). A Pro mode would also be available on video, to finally manually adjust the capture.
The Galaxy S20 + prototype would integrate 4 photo sensors, including a 64 megapixel sensor, and the possibility of filming in 8K .
In addition, the XDA Developers site had fun peeling the code of One UI 2.0 to discover some photo and video functions that should be integrated in the next smartphones from Samsung. This is the case for customizing the Bokeh – the background blur in the photo – with several options or for monitoring the development of an element in the video.
The exact configurations of the photo modules are still mysterious, but there is talk of an x5 optical zoom which would be supported by a 48 megapixel sensor , with an option to photograph the stars . The visuals revealed by OnLeaks also show 5 different photo modules, so many sensors. One of them would also be optimized for night catch .
Very recently, new visuals provided by OnLeaks showed us the evolution of the arrangement of the sensors on the back of the Galaxy S20 + .
WILL THE GALAXY S20 BE COMPATIBLE WITH 5G?
2020 should mark the beginning of the deployment of 5G in Bangladesh and there is reason to believe that the Galaxy S20 will adapt to this transition. As a reminder, Samsung already offers 5G versions of its high-end smartphones in certain markets. As such, the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G is marketed in Bangladesh
WHAT ARE THE GALAXY S20 PRICES AND RELEASE DATE?
The Galaxy S10 was marketed in Bangladesh on March 6, 2019. However, Samsung plans to officially unveil its new smartphones earlier this year. The Korean manufacturer has already announced that it will organize its Samsung Unpacked on February 11, 2020, in San Francisco. Pre-orders could be opened immediately with deliveries two weeks later, like last year.
